History

The Surry County Unit of the North Carolina Retired School Personnel was organized on October 15, 1971, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina.  Mr. Isham B. Hudson, District IV President, initiated the meeting.  The first officers were: President Morgan G. Stanley, Vice-President Christina R. Christian and Secretary/Treasurer Miss Myrtle Valentine.

Membership

The Surry County Unit has grown over the years and now has 196 members.  The Unit received an award from the North Carolina Retired School Personnel in 2004 for increasing our membership by at least 10%.

Meetings

A buffet luncheon and meeting is held on the first Thursday of each March, June, September and December at Cross Creek Country Club in Mt. Airy.  The meeting time is 11:30 a.m.

Things We Do

The members of the Surry County Retired School Personnel engage in various activities.  These involve giving a scholarship each year to a deserving senior; collecting food at each meeting for a food pantry; and volunteering in many areas such as schools, hospitals, homes, nursing homes, and other places connected with community service endeavors.
